Term: 1-Year Contract (with possibility of renewal)

Hours: 40 hours per week, flexibility required including occasional    evenings and weekends

Location: Hybrid – Ohsweken, ON (Travel across Ontario required)

Compensation: $30.00 per hour

About the Centre for Indigenous Professional Learning

The Centre for Indigenous Professional Learning (CIPL), led by the Ontario Aboriginal Head Start Association (OAHSA), supports Indigenous-led professional learning across Ontario’s early years and child care sector.

Grounded in Indigenous pedagogies, epistemologies, and relational worldviews, the Centre supports:

  • Urban Indigenous organizations

The Centre promotes Indigenous knowledge systems, land-based learning, cultural humility, leadership development, and relationship-based approaches to early learning across Ontario.

Position Summary

The Coordinator will support the development, coordination, and delivery of Indigenous-led professional learning opportunities across Ontario. This role focuses on relationship building, program coordination, professional learning delivery, and supporting Indigenous educators and leaders.

This role will work collaboratively with the Centre for Indigenous Professional Learning team, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and sector partners to support culturally grounded professional learning and resource development.

Key Responsibilities

Professional Learning & Program Coordination

  • Support development and coordination of professional learning opportunities
  • Assist with planning and delivery of training sessions, workshops, and gatherings
  • Support land-based learning opportunities and community engagement
  • Assist in development of learning resources and tools
  • Support ongoing professional learning initiatives across Ontario

Relationship Building

  • Build relationships with Indigenous early years programs and organizations across Ontario
  • Support engagement with sector partners and stakeholders
  • Support Elders and Knowledge Keeper involvement in programming
  • Support culturally grounded and relational approaches to learning

Project & Administrative Coordination

  • Assist in development of workplans and timelines
  • Coordinate meetings, learning sessions, and events
  • Track participation and engagement
  • Support reporting requirements
  • Participate in team planning and staff meetings
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the organization

Communication & Resource Development

  • Assist with creation of presentations and learning materials
  • Support virtual and in-person facilitation
  • Support development of culturally grounded professional learning resources
  • Assist with documentation and knowledge sharing

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Services, or related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years experience working with Indigenous communities, children, families, or educators
  • Experience in early years or child care sector considered an asset
  • Experience supporting professional learning initiatives considered an asset

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, pedagogies, and relational approaches
  • Understanding of How Does Learning Happen? and early years pedagogy
  • Knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and perspectives
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Digital & Technical Skills

  • Experience supporting virtual learning environments
  • Experience using platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or similar tools
  • Experience with online learning platforms (D2L or similar considered an asset)
  • Experience developing professional learning resources and materials
  • Comfort using digital tools to support engagement and learning
  • Ability to support both in-person and virtual professional learning environments

Cultural & Relational Competencies

  • Experience working respectfully with Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols and community engagement practices
  • Commitment to relational learning and relationship-based approaches
  • Understanding of cultural humility and reflective practice
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in Indigenous-led environments
  • Commitment to personal wellness, self-reflection, and ongoing learning
  • Understanding of historical and intergenerational impacts on Indigenous communities

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to travel across Ontario
  • Occasional overnight travel required
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required
  • First Aid/CPR considered an asset
