Duties

• Determine type of glass, frames and material required
• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
• Measure, mark and cut glass
• Position and secure panes in frame
• Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products
• Install door, window and other hardware
• Instruct apprentices
• Repair glass doors and other glass structures
• Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolding, rigging and hoisting equipment
• Transport cases of glass
• Estimate costs and materials
• Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
• Facilitate and engage in team-based on-the-job learning activities

Experience & Education

Required: Completion of Secondary School
Required: Written and verbal communication in English
Minimum 3 years experience in this kind of role. Experience with materials and activities noted below:

Materials

• Acrylic plexiglass
• Float glass
• Mirrors
• Sealed units

Frame fabrication and installation

• Curtain wall (stock length and prefabricated material)
• Spandrel panel installations
• Aluminum framing members
• Entranceways

Glass cutting equipment and techniques

• Self-lubricating cutters
• Circular cutters
• Cut glass plate manually (straight cuts) and free-hand (curved cuts)
• Laminate glass

Installations

• Skylights and slope glazed installations
• Curtain walls
• Aluminum storefronts, barrel vaults, solariums, commercial window systems
• Overhead automatic doors
• Shower doors and tub enclosures
• Display cases
• Walls and other interior areas (i.e. partitions)

Equipment

• Carbide and diamond bits
• Brass tube bits

Work Conditions

• At heights
• Cold & Heat
• Outdoors
• Physically Demanding

Transportation / Travel Info

• Valid driver's license
• Vehicle supplied by employer (fleet vehicle for travel from workplace to construction sites)

• Pay: CA$30.00 - CA$36.00 per hour
