Basic Function and Scope:
The Communications and Marketing Summer Student will support the delivery of LACGH’s Corporate Communications Plan by executing tactical communications activities across internal and external channels. With a primary focus on social media and digital content creation, this role will help elevate LACGH’s presence, celebrate organizational achievements, and keep staff and the community informed. This is an excellent opportunity for a post-secondary student to gain hands-on experience in healthcare communications, nonprofit marketing, and stakeholder engagement within a dynamic community hospital setting.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday Days
Status: Temp Full-Time (May 4th – August 21st 2026)
Pay Rate: $17.60 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
Qualifications:
Experience
- Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a post-secondary program in Communications, Marketing, Business, Journalism, or a related field.
- Previous experience with social media content creation in a professional or organizational context is preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare or nonprofit environment is an asset but not required.
Required Skills
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
- Proficiency with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn) and familiarity with best practices for each.
- Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Basic photography or video editing skills are an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team.
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
This role directly supports the following Communications Activities identified in the LACGH Corporate Communications Plan:
- Hospital website – ongoing updates and marketing support.
- Digital Communication Boards – content creation for internal electronic signage.
- Little Extra Newsletter – content development and production.
- Local News Announcements – drafting and distribution support.
- Communications Briefings – ad-hoc support as required.
- Patient Feedback and Balanced Scorecard – communications support as directed.
The incumbent will work within the external communication approval process, ensuring all content is reviewed and approved by the Communications Lead and/or CEO prior to release, as outlined in the Plan.
