Salary: $35.45/Hour for 40 -50 Hours / Week

Tasks:

  • Operate and drive primarily a semi-truck and flat deck trailer to transport goods and materials mainly on local routes and short interurban routes;
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions;
  • Load and unload goods;
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch;
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption;
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment;
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle such as condition of equipment, and loading and unloading of cargo;
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo;
  • Address customers' complaints or concerns;
  • Professionalism in customer service

Documentation knowledge:

  • Driver logbook
  • Bill of lading
  • Maintenance and repair reports
  • Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), trip reports.

Communication systems experience: Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment.

Type of Trucking and Equipment: Tractor-trailer.

Weight Handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs)

Transportation/travel experience: Short-haul, Local
