Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN) is presently seeking a Financial Controller to work under the direction and to report to the Director of Operations and the Director of Finance. The Financial Controller will be responsible for day-to-day financial management and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting, and financial analysis
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze accounting data to produce accurate, timely financial reports for Management and Leadership
- Assist with monthly and quarterly budget monitoring, variance analysis, and budget updates for presentation purposes
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and support year-end audit preparation
- Collaborate with the CFO, Director of Operations, and Leadership in the development of long-term strategic plans
- Design and participate in internal audit testing and evaluation of financial processes and procedures
- Assist with modifying existing procedures or initiating new processes within accounting and business systems
- Analyze financial information and respond to inquiries from Management, Chief and Council, suppliers, vendors, and funders
- Identify, investigate, and resolve financial discrepancies, and provide guidance and training to financial administrators
- Monitor and track revenues and expenses in relation to approved budgets under various funding agreements
- Assist with the timely review of funding agreements and business contracts
- Support the preparation and submission of responses to requests for proposals from funders
- Perform financial analysis across all entities and provide recommendations to improve profitability and financial sustainability
Qualifications
- CPA designation with Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- A minimum of 10 years of financial management experience
- Experience in a computerized accounting environment, including systems such as Sage 300 AccPac
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Ability to prioritize work, manage competing deadlines, and work efficiently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support a collaborative, team-based environment
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and function with minimal supervision
- Willingness and ability to commute to Fisher River Cree Nation
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, governance, and community practices, and the ability to apply this understanding in a professional work environment.
