Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN) is presently seeking a Financial Controller to work under the direction and to report to the Director of Operations and the Director of Finance.  The Financial Controller will be responsible for day-to-day financial management and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting, and financial analysis

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze accounting data to produce accurate, timely financial reports for Management and Leadership
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly budget monitoring, variance analysis, and budget updates for presentation purposes
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and support year-end audit preparation
  • Collaborate with the CFO, Director of Operations, and Leadership in the development of long-term strategic plans
  • Design and participate in internal audit testing and evaluation of financial processes and procedures
  • Assist with modifying existing procedures or initiating new processes within accounting and business systems
  • Analyze financial information and respond to inquiries from Management, Chief and Council, suppliers, vendors, and funders
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve financial discrepancies, and provide guidance and training to financial administrators
  • Monitor and track revenues and expenses in relation to approved budgets under various funding agreements
  • Assist with the timely review of funding agreements and business contracts
  • Support the preparation and submission of responses to requests for proposals from funders
  • Perform financial analysis across all entities and provide recommendations to improve profitability and financial sustainability

Qualifications

  • CPA designation with Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of financial management experience
  • Experience in a computerized accounting environment, including systems such as Sage 300 AccPac
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage competing deadlines, and work efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and function with minimal supervision
  • Willingness and ability to commute to Fisher River Cree Nation
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture, governance, and community practices, and the ability to apply this understanding in a professional work environment.
  • Criminal Records Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check required upon condition of employment
