Horizon Legacy is pioneering the use of robots in construction and solving the problem of labour shortage and affordable housing. Horizon is creating the first construction automation lab in Canada, located in the heart of Toronto.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced electrical engineer to join our team and be a part of our growing Research and Development department. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing the next generation of our automation and robotic systems and products for construction sites. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and construction sub-trades, to bring cutting-edge robotic applications for mortars, concrete, and 3D concrete printing (3DCP) solutions to market.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated systems and machinery to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, program, troubleshoot, repair machines, robotic construction systems, mixing system(s), controllers, materials, and other equipment;
- Manage procurement, custom fabrication, logistics, and transport of equipment and materials;
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, trades and team members;
- Conduct testing in the lab and in the field, track progress in the form of reports, photos, and logs;
- Develop and implement a preventive and corrective maintenance plan;
- Design, develop additional automation capabilities;
- Manage visitors, support events;
- Coordinate and provide technical support and training to customers and other team members;
- Receive training and follow strict occupational safety and health procedures;
Other duties
- Manage visitors to the testing facility, manage visitors on the construction site, specifically as it relates to the printing system;
- Train new employees and customers;
- Coordinate and provide support for team members as needed;
- Receive health and safety training, maintain a safe work environment, and ensure the company’s Health and Safety Protocols are adhered to;
- Receive additional training or take courses and certifications on an as-needed basis (AutoCAD, REVIT, Rhino, Grasshopper, Robot Studio or other software deemed necessary);
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of a college diploma or apprenticeship in automation, electrical, or a related field;
- Minimum 2 years of experience in automation or industrial maintenance;
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, robotics, sensors, and control systems (preferred);
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics (preferred);
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
