We are currently seeking an experienced Estimator Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail and a passion for supporting the accurate and efficient preparation of cost estimates for construction or engineering projects.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and related documentation to determine project scope and requirements
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, access limitations, and potential risks
  • Collaborate with internal project teams to clarify project details and resolve ambiguities
  • Identify and evaluate risks, proposing mitigation strategies when necessary
  • Prepare quantity take-offs, tender estimates, RFIs, and RFPs for multiple project types
  • Assess material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Analyze supplier and subcontractor quotes for cost-effectiveness and reliability
  • Use cost estimation software, historical data, and market trends to develop accurate and timely estimates
  • Assist with creating reports, breakdowns, and presentations for internal use
  • Maintain and update databases with current pricing for materials and labor
  • Support the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Ensure all estimates align with local regulations, building codes, and industry standards
  • Support procurement and contract review processes when required
  • Maintain organized, accurate documentation throughout the estimating cycle

 

Job Requirements

Language: English

Education: College diploma or apprentice training 2 years minimum

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience as a civil estimator or assistant estimator in the residential or commercial construction sector
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, materials, methods, and codes
  • Familiarity with industry-standard estimating tools and software
  • Experience with quantity take-offs and cost assessments for materials, labor, and subcontracted work
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with cost estimation software and digital drawing review tools is considered an asset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player with a solutions-based mindset
  • Ability to prioritize and problem-solve under pressure
