Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Operations Manager to join our growing team and manage the overall day to day operations of the warehouse while working cohesively with other departments such as sales, dispatch, and invoicing, with the common goal of improving efficiency, capacity, and profitability.
This role will take leadership of a direct team of 6 to 10 team members, depending on low and peak seasons, including forklift drivers, order pickers, general labourers, and administrators. This person will also work closely key high-volume customers as a direct point of contact to facilitate smooth daily operations.
The position will encompass the following responsibilities including but not limited to:
Operations Management
- Plan, execute and manage all daily warehouse operations and customer activities relating to:
- inventory storage
- Shipping and receiving
- Crossdocking
- Container loading, destuffing and kitting
- Distribution and fulfillment
- Material handling equipment
- Safety and compliance, and
- Warehouse staffing;
- Analyze operations and drive improvements in safety, productivity, cost reduction, workload output, capacity, and space maximization to eliminate operating issues and improve service quality and profitability;
- Work cohesively and proactively with all department heads, employees, and customers to ensure customer requirements are communicated and executed efficiently;
- Lead daily company wide operational meetings;
- Assisting the team where necessary to complete tasks during times of labour shortage or time sensitive matters.
Customer Relations
- Work with the sales department and upper-level management to space plan and onboard new warehouse customers;
- Promote service satisfaction and growth opportunities by developing rapport and trust with customers and proactively resolving potential issues;
- Liase and plan special fulfillment projects with customers;
- Ensure that all customer SLAs are met.
Employees
- Work with Human Resources to acquire new team members when needed and perform interviews, skill assessments, orientations, and SOP training;
- Plan, distribute, and monitor daily work tasks for team members and ensure adherence to SOP’s and timelines;
- Mentor and coach team members to continually increase skill set by providing feedback, re-training, and discipline where appropriate;
- Enhance employee morale by driving engagement and establishing an environment of trust and teamwork;
- Ensure employees are cross trained in all lateral positions for the purpose of succession planning, career advancement and employee absence.
Safety and Compliance
- Comply with all provincial and federal regulations relating to labour laws and health and safety compliance including the ESA, MOL, and OFC;
- Plan, perform and document regular scheduled and opportunistic safety talks;
- Investigate and complete incidents/accidents documentation;
- Ensure all material handling equipment and warehouse machinery is managed and used safely;
- Review and update operational SOPs on a regular basis;
- Complete daily warehouse walkthroughs for compliance and job safety analysis.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a warehouse or similar environment.
- 2+ years directly managing a team of hourly employees.
- Licensed and skilled to operate a variety of forklifts;
- Understanding of good operational processes;
- Knowledgeable of employment standards and government regulations pertaining to warehouse operations;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook);
- Flexible and adaptable with schedule which includes working occasional weekends and after-hours.

Physical Demands
- Frequently walk all areas of the warehouse many times each day;
- Standing for extended periods of time;
- Bending, twisting, and looking up requiring flexibility and stamina;
- Operating material handling equipment and additional tools and equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, strapping and stretch wrapping machines;
- Occasionally lifting items weighing upwards of fifty lbs;
- Visually inspecting small and large items both near and far requiring excellent vision;
- Listening for and responding to audible sounds indicating safety issues or calls for assistance.
