Are you passionate about advancing mental health and wellness within Indigenous communities? We are looking for a dedicated Mental Health Project Coordinator to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping transformative health initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate on cutting-edge projects that support Métis women and the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, helping to bridge critical gaps in mental health services. If you're an innovative and compassionate leader with a strong background in mental health and Indigenous studies, we want to hear from you.

In this role, you will build a comprehensive project framework using data collected in the first phase, actively engage stakeholders, and ensure the project is culturally responsive and aligned with the needs of Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals. Your expertise will help influence systemic change and advocate for better mental health services within Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Framework Development: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and implement a robust project framework based on insights from the initial phase, ensuring it effectively addresses identified needs and gaps in mental health care.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders—including Indigenous communities, health service providers, and policymakers—to gather input, support, and ensure the project aligns with community priorities.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on mental health policies and best practices related to Indigenous mental wellness. Analyze data to inform project strategies, ensuring decisions are grounded in evidence and community needs.
  • Advocacy & Policy Influence: Champion changes within healthcare systems that support the mental wellness of Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals. Advocate for projects that uphold national and international human rights standards, ensuring equitable access to mental health services.
  • Cultural Competency: Integrate cultural sensitivity and awareness into all project activities, recognizing the unique barriers faced by Indigenous communities, particularly Métis, in accessing mental health care.
  • Progress Reporting & Transparency: Prepare and present regular reports, documentation, and presentations to stakeholders and funding bodies, ensuring accountability and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Capacity Building: Lead training sessions and workshops to enhance mental health awareness and resources within communities, strengthening stakeholder and community capacity in addressing mental wellness challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health, social work, psychology, Indigenous studies, public health, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in health, mental wellness, or social services, especially within Indigenous contexts.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous mental health challenges, particularly as they pertain to Métis communities and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals.
  • Knowledge of mental health policies, advocacy strategies, and healthcare systems reform, with a focus on Indigenous health equity.
  • Deep awareness of Indigenous rights and the specific healthcare needs of Métis communities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Flexible work schedule - may be required to work evenings and weekends occasionally
  • Occasional travel required.
