Who we are

At illumin, we are transforming the advertising landscape. Our platform offers an integrated space for journey planning, execution, and reporting. It empowers marketers to connect with their audiences in powerful ways through real-time data and easy-to-use visual tools. By seamlessly combining media planning and buying in an intuitive interface, marketers can take complete control of their campaigns, meeting customers wherever they are in the buying journey and maximizing the impact of their ad spend through personalized insights for smarter decision-making.

We are at a pivotal moment, evolving into a product-led company with a team of over 100 skilled professionals and new leadership guiding our path forward. By harnessing the power of data, advancing our AI capabilities, and deeply investing in our people, we are preparing for a future that will redefine what’s possible in journey advertising.

Our work is guided by two beliefs: that the ability to execute is paramount to success and that we are only as good as our people. As we grow and transform, we are looking for team members (illumineers) who share our bias for speed, delivery over perfection, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Joining us now is a chance to be part of our transformation.

Who we need

We are looking for a QA Manager to lead and elevate our quality assurance efforts. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will drive the vision and strategy for a team of Manual QA Testers and Software Developers in Test. Your role will focus on refining our QA processes, ensuring a balanced approach to manual and automated testing, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, integrating QA processes within an Agile framework to ensure quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle. Your leadership will ensure timely and effective testing, helping deliver a robust platform that meets feature and platform-level needs.

This is a hybrid opportunity, working Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays on-site in our downtown Toronto office. Our headquarters are located within minutes of St. Andrew and Union subway stations.

What's in it for you

Impact. You are passionate about driving quality in a product transforming the industry. As part of a collaborative QA team in a product-led company, you will play a key role in shaping a world-class quality strategy, ensuring that the platform meets the highest standards our customers have come to rely on. Your relentless focus on quality will directly contribute to our platform’s reputation and our clients’ success.

Technical exposure. Our platform handles billions of requests daily, powering global traffic across devices and services. As the QA Manager, you will take ownership of the challenges posed by this scale and complexity, driving innovation in both manual and automated testing. With the autonomy to introduce new tools and continually improve the QA strategy, you will ensure we deliver a robust, high-performing product. You will have the opportunity to tackle unique technical challenges, applying your expertise to ensure the quality and scalability of the platform.

Professional Development. You are driven to grow—your skills, influence, and career. We continuously push boundaries to improve and reach our full potential individually and as a company. We are deeply committed to building the strengths of our team. As we meet the growing demands of AdTech, your responsibilities, learning opportunities, and scope for ownership will rapidly expand.

How you will make an impact:

  • Lead and mentor your team. You will lead, mentor, and develop a high-performance team of QA engineers in Toronto and offshore, fostering a collaborative environment that focuses on growth, accountability, and excellence. You will manage day-to-day activities, conduct performance reviews and drive career development while ensuring workload balance.
  • Shape and drive quality assurance strategies. You will oversee the development and execution of comprehensive QA strategies and best practices that align with Agile methodologies. Your leadership will ensure that QA processes are integrated early in the development lifecycle, and you will continuously improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Support cross-functional teams. You will collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, developers, and leadership teams to meet quality objectives. You will be a trusted advisor on quality-related matters, ensuring acceptance criteria are clear and testable.
  • Enhance test automation and manual testing. You will lead the adoption of test automation frameworks, driving a balance between manual and automated testing approaches. You will identify opportunities to improve test coverage and reduce manual effort while ensuring thorough regression testing before each release.
  • Ensure data-driven decisions. You will define and track key quality metrics to monitor performance, driving informed decisions that ensure high software quality standards. As part of the leadership team, you will supply QA resources to feature teams, collaborating with Scrum Masters and engineering managers.
  • Contribute to the QA strategy. You will work closely with other leaders to refine the QA strategy, ensuring a seamless blend of manual and automated testing approaches. Your focus will be aligning QA processes with feature and platform needs, ensuring the right resources are available to support development goals and maintain product integrity.

What you bring:

  • The technical and leadership experience. You have led QA teams through successful software delivery cycles, combining manual testing and automation. You are proficient in test automation tools and frameworks like Selenium, JUnit, or TestNG, with a deep understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC.
  • A strategic mindset. You can shape and execute QA strategies, blending manual and automated testing approaches. You bring thought leadership to QA processes, driving continuous improvement in testing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborative leadership skills. You excel at sharing knowledge, guiding team members, and mentoring others in their professional growth. You may have had experience leading both onshore and offshore teams. You effectively articulate and execute company vision and strategies, motivating diverse teams to achieve their best. Your creative leadership helps navigate conflict, remove obstacles, and provide clear direction. You focus on developing scalable processes through strategic planning, and your collaborative approach ensures cross-functional teams work together seamlessly.
  • A focus on quality. You have hands-on experience with Agile delivery teams, integrating QA processes into the development lifecycle. You ensure that testing is continuous and comprehensive, representing QA during Agile ceremonies and advocating for quality at every development phase.
  • Problem-solving and adaptability. You thrive in fast-paced environments and can make decisions that drive quality and performance. Your capacity to analyze, adjust, and implement new strategies will be essential to the team’s success.
  • The growth mindset. You are naturally curious and driven by continuous improvement. You eagerly seek opportunities to learn from both peers and personal experience. You acknowledge your mistakes and can adapt to setbacks. You are resourceful and can use new knowledge to solve problems. Staying up to date with the latest tools and best practices is second nature to you, and you’re excited about sharing that knowledge with your team.
