Central Mountain Air is a Western Canadian privately owned and operated company operating in the aviation industry. We are a local business established in 1987 with the purpose of connecting communities throughout British Columbia and Alberta by offering scheduled and charter flights. Central Mountain Air has been servicing 10 communities in British Columbia and Alberta for over 35 years, not only through the provision of charter and scheduled services, but also by being an interline partner to Air Canada and Westjet and offering cargo services.

Captains are given full authority for the conduct of the flight operations for which they are rostered. They shall conduct their flight operations and other duties under the direction of the Chief Pilot through the authority of the Operations Manager and shall comply with his orders and requirements relating to their employment and conduct of flight operations

Job Duties

  • The nominated Pilot in Command (PIC) is delegated final authority over all safety decisions during flight and for the maintenance of discipline by all persons on board. Dispatch and the PIC have co-authority for ?Operational Control? - i.e. initiation, continuation, diversion and termination of flight.
  • In exercising this authority the Captain must act at all times in the Company's interest. Must also be aware that common sense and good judgement must be used in exercising this authority and those they may be called upon to justify their actions and decisions.
  • Has responsibility for the safety of the aircraft and for compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, NOTAMS, etc. of all countries to which Company aircraft operate. The Captain?s responsibility for the aircraft begins when he boards the aircraft for the purpose of assuming command and ends when the aircraft is stopped with the engines shut down and the aircraft disembarked. The Captain is also responsible for the security of control surfaces, propellers and doors before leaving the aircraft unattended.
  • Shall ensure that at all times the aircraft is flown in strict accordance with Company SOPs that the F/O is briefed on all aspects of the flight, and that strict adherence is paid to the normal and abnormal checklists for the aircraft.
  • When operating to airfields where only limited ground support is available, shall ensure that all refuelling and maintenance procedures are properly adhered to, and shall take such steps as are necessary and appropriate to ensure the security of the aircraft and the welfare of passengers.
  • Shall be responsible for ensuring that all necessary documents relevant to the flight are carried on board the aircraft, whether or not the duty for checking documents has been delegated to another individual.
  • Shall ensure that, from the time the engines are started until the engines are stopped, no one other than persons qualified for and assigned to duties in the cockpit shall manipulate any aircraft controls. This requirement shall not apply to persons being trained by a designated Company Training Captain.
  • Is responsible for passenger comfort while the aircraft is under his command.
  • Captains are considered to be representatives of the Company and at all times should conduct themselves accordingly.
  • Has command of the aircraft at all times. If the Captain is unable to assume command of the aircraft, the First Officer has command.
  • Other duties as assigned and consistent with the role.

Terms of Employment:

Permanent and full-time (80 hours/week); 17-18 work days per month, willing to work irregular hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Language of Work: English and / or French

Wage range: $45.60 - 57.69 per hour

Education Requirements:

  • Canadian Commercial Pilot License with multi IFR Rating
  • Valid IATRA and CPL
  • Valid Cat 1 Medical Certificate

Work Experience Requirements:

The following are required:

No Transport Canada violations or suspensions; valid passport; industry-standard medical testing requirements for commercial flights; safety-oriented. Experience in flying equipment that is similar in configuration and complexity to Beechcraft 1900Ds, Dornier 328s and De Havilland Dash 8 aircraft. Record of 4,000 flight hours for a First Officer (i.e. Officer in Command) and 5,000 hours for a Captain required. Training bonds will apply and must cover a minimum of 2 years of employment (if applicable to the position and candidate). Flexible to varying work schedules; ability to travel away from home, including overnights on occasion; ability to provide a high level of friendly customer service while ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; team player; ability to make decisions, critical thinking skills and ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.
