On behalf of our client, Gardewine Group Limited Partnership, we are seeking a Director of Human Resources to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gardewine provides a cross-Canada fleet of transportation solutions to deliver anything from small parcels and perishable products to bulk goods and equipment. With a team of over 1600 staff and a large network of terminals and service points based in Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, Gardewine ensures their customers’ freight is delivered at the most cost-effective price, safely and on time. Reporting to the President, the Director Human Resources is responsible for all areas of human resource management including but not limited to recruitment and retention, training, employee relations, performance management, disability management, health & safety, pension and benefits administration and organizational development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for leading, coaching and developing a talented human resources team
  • Using best practices, develop and implement long and short-term human resources strategies, programs and policies that support the overall objectives of the organization and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
  • Provide training, support and recommendations to both management and staff on human resources standards, policies, procedures
  • Working with the senior leadership team, identify staffing and recruiting needs and develop best practices for talent management
  • Perform benefits administration by providing communication and education to all employees regarding benefit plans and programs as well as assist with concerns or questions as appropriate
  • Lead, manage, and support by utilizing best practices in all areas including but not limited to recruitment and retention, orientation, training, employee relations, performance management, regulatory compliance and legal requirements
  • Responsible for the group insurance/pension plan management, WCB/WSIB plan management, and disability/workplace injury claims management
  • Maintain a positive employee work environment through safe and progressive workplace practices
  • Ensure the completion of reports such as quarterly business unit, employment equity, annual hazardous occurrence report, etc.
  • Evaluate key performance indicators to drive functional and business performance improvements related to human resources
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization’s compliance


Skills and Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Commerce or a related discipline
  • CPHR designation is an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible management experience in a Human Resources environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and provincial legislation such as human rights, employment standards, health and safety, and employee relations
  • Ability to effectively work with and support employees at all levels and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to provide human resource leadership across a multi-location work environment
  • A high degree of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and dependability
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills and able to present and facilitate
  • Excellent team-building, communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution and organizational management skills
  • Ability to travel as required
