On behalf of our client, Nations Translation Group Inc., (NTG), we are seeking a Manager, Information Systems located in Ottawa, Ontario. NTG is the leading Canadian provider of translation services, translating in over 95 languages, including English, French and Indigenous languages spanning traditional territories across Canada. With a track record of close to 30 years and a highly dedicated staff and a freelance team of close to 150 professionals, NTG has proven itself to its clients as the largest privately held Canadian translation firm.

Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, this role is responsible for working with third party suppliers to maintain existing processes in place as well as continuing to assist in the evolution of current cybersecurity strategies in place. The Manager will translate the IT-risk requirements and constraints of the business into technical control requirements and specifications, as well as develop metrics for ongoing performance measurement and reporting. The Manager will also lead and coordinate the organization’s IT technical activities to implement and manage security infrastructure and to provide regular status and service-level reports to the leadership team.

This is a hands-on role that requires an individual with strong technical IT background. The individual must be able to prioritize work efforts and balance operational tasks with longer-term strategic security efforts. Vendor relationship management is also required to ensure that service levels and vendor obligations are met.

Key Responsibilities

Information Technology:

  • Maintain and update technology governance and policies
  • Oversee technical projects in alignment with organizational goals
  • Under direction of the VP Operations, oversee and support the implementation of new software and hardware
  • Identify and recommend new technology solutions to manage business activities more effectively and efficiently
  • Oversee the effective delivery of networks and systems processes
  • Manage the organization’s help desk

Information Security and Cyber Security:

  • Administer the overall strategies and procedures for the organization’s data and cybersecurity protection
  • Analyze existing security systems and make recommendations for changes or improvements
  • Maintain and update the security strategy, security awareness programs, security architecture, and security incident response
  • Maintain and update information security and disaster recovery programs under information security standards and other industry specific standards and certifications as required
  • Maintain and update effective security controls and security awareness programs
  • Maintain and update up-to-date security policies, standards, and guidelines annually
  • Provide strategic risk guidance for IT projects, including evaluation and recommendation of technical controls
  • Educate leaders and staff on appropriate security risk and mitigation strategies
  • Oversee training and dissemination of security policies and practices as directed by VP Operations
  • Prepare reports and action plans in the event that a security breach does occur as directed
  • Work closely with the VP Operations in the development of implementation plans and procedures to ensure business-critical services are recovered in the event of disasters or other incidents
  • Evaluate new cybersecurity threats and IT trends
  • Evaluate potential security breaches, coordinates response, and recommend corrective actions
  • Define and report on information security metrics

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum SECRET level security clearance
  • Bilingual (English-French)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information technology systems security or related field
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certification would be desired
  • Strong IT experience with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in system and security support
  • Hands-on practice with network security architecture
  • Knowledge of IT strategy and Information technology infrastructure library (ITIL) with respect to security administration and information technology governance
  • Experience with common information security management frameworks, such as International Standards Organization (ISO) 27001, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) cybersecurity framework, and other leading-edge security frameworks.
  • Proficient in performing risk, business impact, control, and vulnerability assessments, and in defining treatment strategies
  • Strong understanding of the business impact of security tools, technologies, and policies.
  • Experience in establishing cybersecurity and risk metrics for reporting
  • Experience in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
  • Demonstrated management skills in budget development, administration and policy development, and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse people
  • Strong leadership abilities, with the capability to develop, train and guide all team members
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
