Behavioural Health Foundation (BHF) has roots dating back to 1967, as Canada’s first residential treatment facility for families. BHF continues to honour the tradition of providing a safe and structured environment for holistic addiction and co-occurring mental health treatment services. BHF is proud to offer Indigenous traditional programming as a core ingredient of our treatment program and is dedicated to working to heal the effects of colonialism on our Indigenous population.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will act as the senior staff representative of the agency to all levels of government, private agencies, and other stakeholders. As BHF’s Compliance Officer, the Executive Director will assume primary responsibility for administration, policies, accounting procedures, and programming. 

The successful individual will be a natural, motivated leader with understanding and compassion for the individuals and families that rely on BHF’s programs to help them get back on their feet. Experience working in an Indigenous setting with an understanding of Indigenous culture and experience is an asset to this role.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee BHF’s fundraising/grant writing initiatives in partnership with the Board of Directors
  • Ensure compliance with all provincial licensing and international accreditation requirements
  • Play a lead role in formulating BHF’s Strategic Plan, Accessibility Plan, Risk Management and other plans, and ensure that the plans are updated annually, at a minimum
  • Ensure an annual program evaluation is conducted for BHF treatment programs and ensure a report is prepared for the Board of Directors


  • University degree with related graduate training or Community College certification
  • 5 or more years of leadership experience
  • Extraordinary demonstration of knowledge of the field of additions and therapeutic community processes
  • Experience working with and reporting to a Board of Directors
  • Knowledge on current principles and practices in community-based additions counselling and rehabilitative programming
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations in relation to operations of community facilities
  • CARF designation is desirable
  • Knowledge of Indigenous heritage, culture, spirituality and customs is an asset
  • Ability to formulate program policy and procedures
  • Ability to assess areas of need and develop programming relative to those needs
  • Exceptional relationship builder
  • Valid Manitoba’s driver’s license
