Toronto Based Travelling Cook Wanted
(Back and forth between Toronto and France)
We are looking for an exceptional, highly organized home cook- to be clear this is NOT a chef position- Cooks only please!!!
You are creative, down to earth and love good food.
You are happiest in your own kitchen, you may not be professionally trained, but grew up cooking with your mother or grandmother that showed you the ropes.
You bake bread(even pre-covid), always presalt (thank you Molly Stevens) and know the difference between a spring onion and a scallion.
You keep an immaculate kitchen(and we do mean immaculate) at all times , hate chef drama and hissy fits and know that good food comes from the heart and not from the cooking channel.
You make your own stocks and sauce with labels and dates on everything.
But, if you don’t know who MFK is, didn’t love Julie and Julia and think marshmallows have any place in an adults diet, this is not the position for you.
However, if Elizabeth David and Alice Waters are your personal heroes and you cant ever decide if Nigella beats Nigel, or vise versa and if you think pasta with raw tomato sauce begins with growing your own tomatoes, we may have something to talk about….
You will manage a recipe database and be happy using recipes directly from it. You will build food plans based on a low carb, low red meat healthy diet, manage inventories and source the best ingredients from all over. This will be a constant work in progress while you update and modify recipes.
This will include but not limited to freezer stocking, tending the vegetable garden, food shopping, food plans, updating and managing a database of recipes.
The position will require 4-5 months in France, so French speaking would be a big plus(obviously)
Finally, a sense of humor is essential. We like to have fun!
Details: 4 sometimes 5 days per week, some weekends and evenings. Regular hours 10AM-7PM Shopping will be done in the morning on your way into work, but flexibility is required of course.
