Canada’s History is searching for a creative and organized Content Coordinator to add to our team.  Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief / Director of Content & Communications, the Content Coordinator will generate story ideas and regularly create new content—articles, multimedia-based stories, etc.—for both print and online.  This includes unique content, as well as the creation sidebar for both platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handle and edit magazine departments, as assigned, and write small articles
  • Fact check and proofread all content, in print and online, as required
  • Regularly create and post web stories
  • Assist in the creation of special publishing projects, as well as the creation and dissemination of corporate communications materials, as required
  • Handle incoming feature article queries, as well as Letters to the Editor, edit and create the Letters page
  • Regularly contribute book reviews
  • Copy edit web articles, email blasts, and non-feature articles
  • Respond to requests for information from writers and readers, including sending out submission and writer guidelines and answering history-related queries from readers
  • Send writers contracts, ensure payment
  • Update upcoming article calendar
  • Photo research, as required. This includes finding owners of images, licensing restrictions, copyright, costs, and timeline for orders
  • Order images and obtain permissions as required


  • Degree or diploma in a related field (history, journalism, creative communication’s
  • 3-5 year’s experience as a writer
  • Knowledge of and passion for Canadian History
  • Previous experience in copy editing (e.g. feature articles) is preferred
  • Able to improve stories and work with writers
  • Understanding of project planning, assessment and evaluation and resource management
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Outstanding command of the English language
  • Working knowledge of both oral and written French (asset)
