On behalf of our client, we are currently searching for a Financial Controller to join their team in Central Ontario. Our client is a First Nations organization dedicated to supporting their community.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Financial Controller will be responsible for day-to-day financial management and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting and financial analysis. We are seeking an individual who has strengths in attention to detail, organization, multitasking and working with financial information to ensure successful performance. This financial role will appeal to a confident leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


  • Responsible for the day to day management of the financial administration and local revenue systems
  • Prepares various financial reconciliations and remittances
  • Maintain Sage Accpac accounting systems ensuring proper, complete, and accurate record-keeping of transactions performed within the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Assists with preparation of monthly internal and external financial reporting packages
  • Ensures financial reporting and procedural compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations
  • Prepares the financial statements and reports in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Manages the accounts payable function, ensuring payments are made promptly within the confines of appropriate and sound cash management
  • Manages the accounts receivable function and maintain the funds and trust accounts
  • Assists in development, maintenance of effective financial operations, systems and procedures
  • Maintains, evaluates and recommends improvements to the accounting systems to improve internal controls and/or efficiencies
  • Provides leadership, expertise and guidance to the Finance Department in all areas related to Finance and Accounting
  • Work closely with and supervise all members of accounting team on process, accuracy and efficiency improvements of accounting processes
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are kept current and are adhered to

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Completion of recognized accounting designation (CPA) and/or a CAFM designation
  • 8 - 10 years of financial management experience
  • Experience with Sage Accpac accounting systems
  • Experience in a government environment would be considered an asset
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and able to meet deadlines
  • An ability to effectively manage and supervise personnel
  • Well-developed communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge and experience in a First Nations organization
