Just about every weekday, we write at least one blog article for you. It's usually about a company that is looking for staff. Sometimes it's a motivational piece about getting out there and finding your perfect job.

We like to bring you these listings because sometimes it's hard to know who's hiring. It's sometimes hard to find that needle in a haystack. That's why this blog is a great resource if you are looking for a new career or just trying to see what's out there.

The blog has been up for a little while now, and the response has been great. So remember to check it often to see who's hiring today!

Take Action Day

Today is Take Action Day. Okay, it's not an official holiday because I just made it up, but think about this; How many times do we whine about our job, our salary, our days off (or lack thereof?)

Today, I say you do something about it. Looking for a job? You're at the right place. Browse around, look at teh job listings and see what strikes your fancy. Need more money? Read some of our articles on asking for a raise. Browse the blog and work on getting the job you've always wanted. You don't need to take drastic steps (please don't quit your job on a whim!) but take a few minutes to figure out what you really want. Do you need a few more days off a year? Formulate an action plan - you'll feel better because you are doing something about your situation. Need to feel more challenged at work? Ask for a new task! The side benefit might be that you develop new skills, making you a better candidate for a promotion or a raise.

Like I said, no need to do anything drastic or hasty, but start thinking about what you want and how to get there.

Today is the Canadajobs.com Take Action Day - so figure out what you want and take action that will lead you on the path to a happier, more successful you at work.

For those of us who could use another vacation day (isn't that everyone?) Ontario Premier McGuinty has recently announced Family Day. This new holiday will fall on the third Monday each February.

It is expected to get approval from the Legislature and should take effect next year.

If you hadn't heard about this yet, it's definitely great news for a Friday!

Top Five Job Search Tips

Today we're doing something different. Instead of telling you about a company that's hiring, we're giving you our 5 best job tips.

Tip #1

Always have your resume up to date. If you're browsing online or the want ads or you run into someone who tells you about the perfect job opportunity, you need to be prepared. Having your resume up to date will help you apply for a job faster and might help you avoid missing an important application deadline. If you don't have an updated resume, now's the tip to work on it.

Tip #2

Network. If you are looking for a job, tell people about it. Nearly every social gathering is an opportunity. Tell people what you are looking for.

Tip #3

Know what you want. This will cut down considerably on the time you spend looking for a job. When you meet people, you'll be able to specify what you're looking for. Knowing what you want, the salary range you would like, and the locations that you are open to are critical to helping you find a job.

Tip #4

Be professional. When you are speaking to someone about looking for a job, you need to be thinking that this person could be in a position to hire you. That means being able to present yourself in a well-spoken manner and being confident. I was recently speaking to someone at a wedding, who was looking for a job. This person was confident and projected herself well. I have no doubt she will find something soon, especially with her networking skills. And finally...

Tip #5

Do it. No one wants to hear you whining about how much you hate your job. If you aren't happy at your job, if you aren't at all passionate about what you're doing, it shows. You are only doing a disservice to yourself and to your present company by doing a job you don't like. Get your ducks in a row; work on your resume, fix your attitude, find out what you want, and get out there. Only you have to power to change your life.

Congratulations to the class of 2007!
