On behalf of our client, Gardewine Group Inc. we are currently recruiting an Assistant Controller to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gardewine provides a cross-Canada fleet of transportation solutions to deliver anything from small parcels and perishable products to bulk goods and equipment. Gardewine’s team of over 1600 staff combined with their large network of terminals and service points ensure that their customers’ freight is delivered at the most cost-effective price, safely and on time.

Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for assisting with and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting, and financial analysis. We are seeking a dynamic individual who has strengths in attention to detail, organization, multitasking, and working with financial information to ensure successful company performance. This financial role will appeal to a confident professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, leadership skills and drive to achieve results. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform month end closing procedures on assigned financial statement items
  • Prepare various financial reconciliations and periodic government remittances
  • Assist with preparation of monthly internal and external financial reporting packages
  • Ensure financial reporting and procedural compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations
  • Assist in development, maintenance of effective financial operations / systems / procedures
  • Assist in preparation, development, and monitoring of key performance indicators for operational and corporate overview
  • Work closely with all members of accounting team on process, accuracy, and efficiency improvements of accounting processes

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Completion of recognized accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience
  • Able to work independently and work effectively in a team environment
  • Well-developed communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, and able to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and administrative skills with extensive experience with Microsoft Office Software
