Develops and assists with the implementation of comprehensive health and safety and environmental programs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Aid Senior Manager, EHSS in ensuring compliance to all Health and Safety Corporate Policies and Programs and all health and safety legislation. Responsible for communication efforts for new and/or revised policies and procedures, as needed.
  • Manage positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain central EHSS file system and library. Ensures all EHSS information relevant to plant operations is up-to-date and accessible in a centralized storage location including EHSS SharePoint Page.
  • Walk the manufacturing/distribution center floor(s) on a regular basis to establish safety presence and provide support. Participate in safety audit programs; conduct regular safety inspections, recommend improvement plans and report results and follow up.
  • Organize and evaluate on site drill programs such as evacuation, spill, and first aid.
  • Gather and reports metrics, i.e., Scorecard, Resource Efficiency Report etc.
  • Support EHS systems and corrective actions utilizing programs such as InfoLink for forklift operations, Intelex for accident reporting and investigations, MSDSonline for chemical tracing, and Alchemy learning management system.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and present all relevant new hire orientation and ongoing training for all employees across all sites.
  • Conduct job exposure analyses to ensure safe work environments according to EHS standards. Assist with development of Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Monitors waste streams and recyclables, such as mixed waste, cardboard and recyclables. Ensures hazardous waste streams, such as used oil, batteries and parts cleaning solvent, are monitored and properly handled and disposed of according to Canadian legislation.
  • Support external programs and maintain associations, such as Safety Groups, and National Safety Council.
  • Track and support the wellness program including communication and results.
  • Responsible to protect own health and safety by working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures.
  • Ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Attend all monthly JHS Committee, EHSS team, and HR department meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, EHSS.


  • Post-secondary education, with Occupational Health and Safety accreditation (certificate, diploma) or equivalent work experience.
  • CRSP or other accreditation in a safety discipline (in-process)
  • 2 years work-related experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably consumer packaging)
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, legislative requirements relating to OHSA, CSA, WSIA, and Environmental Protection Act.
  • Good knowledge of environmental systems (spill control, MSDS,  , etc.)
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) are required.

  • Capable group speaker able to conduct training activities.

  • Occasional overnight travel for learning opportunities or to support company initiatives.
