Lighting Maintenance Technician
RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshoot lighting equipment for artist training, and maintenance;
Back up console operators and programmers, as well as other lighting department show positions as needed;
Preserve the ongoing, long-term integrity of lighting during performances and rehearsals in keeping with the original intent of the Lighting Designer;
Inspect and maintain lighting equipment and systems; update maintenance and inspection records as directed; work with the Technical Director to develop maintenance systems and procedures;
Work with the technical team to develop and maintain a safe working environment by leading the lighting team in adhering to all established safety policies and procedures; participate in all required safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsal/training, maintenance and evening show performances;
Maintain Lighting Department documentation through ACAD, databases and electronic file systems;
Develop a thorough knowledge of all Lighting Department equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely;
Participate actively in ongoing specialty training in order to master all theatrical lighting and electrical systems;
Participate in and oversee special projects, including the installation of new lighting show elements;
Demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, be self-motivated and provide a positive work environment both inside the department and theatre-wide;
Perform other tasks and projects assigned by the Technical Director.
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Five years as lighting operator and programmer, and crew lead;
Field experience with repairs and troubleshooting, and the use of digital test equipment to perform such repairs;
In-depth electrical and electronics knowledge and experience;
Fluency in English essential;
Strong computer knowledge required in ACAD, databases, specialty lighting programs and desktop publishing; familiarity with Ethernet and DMX distribution systems;
Experience with large-scale production lighting systems, troubleshooting electrical systems, digital communications, and computer operations related to theatrical lighting
We need a candidate that is available to go on tour throughout Canada, United States and Europe.
